The Commitments

- Comedy
- Drama
- Music
Director: Alan Parker
Starring: Robert Arkins, Michael Aherne, Angeline Ball
Plot: Jimmy Rabbitte, an unemployed Dublin boy, decides to put together a soul band made up entirely of the Irish working class.
Mildly entertaining 2 hour non sequitur music video
5One time I saw Colm Meaney in an SBUX in Calgary
5If you took out the time spent singing or screaming, this movie would only be about 16 minutes long.
5.5For a movie about soul, this doesn't have much of it. Not bad if you like the music though.
5.95A raunchier version of That Thing You Do with an Irish accent.

Iron Lung

- Horror
- Sci-Fi
Director: Mark Fischbach
Starring: Mark Fischbach, Caroline Kaplan, Troy Baker
Plot: In a post-apocalyptic future after "The Quiet Rapture" event, a convict explores a blood ocean on a desolate moon using a submarine called the "Iron Lung" to search for missing stars/planets.
If you want to play a video game without being able to control any of the characters, here you go.
0.05What a bloody waste of 2 hours
1There will be blood. Endlessly. For no reason.
2.5Almost as much blood as The Substance! But not nearly as good.
3.75Movies that make me dive into their lore are always a treat. This movie does a lot of showing and not telling, and on rewatches there is more to be discovered.

Near Dark

- Horror
Director: Kathryn Bigelow
Starring: Adrian Pasdar, Jenny Wright, Lance Henriksen
Plot: A small-town farmer's son reluctantly joins a traveling group of vampires after he is bitten by a beautiful drifter.
Near Dark: Where it goes from pitch black to blazing sun in 3 minutes!
1.5Not sure what sucks more, vampires or 80s pixie cuts
3Transition between night and day was cut to give more budget to explosions
4Lot's of star power in this late 80s B movie. Yep.
580s time capsule of vampires and synth music. Come for Bill Paxton, don’t stay for the ending.

Montana Story

- Drama
Director: Scott McGehee, David Siegel
Starring: Haley Lu Richardson, Owen Teague, Gilbert Owuor
Plot: Two estranged siblings return home to the sprawling ranch they once knew and loved, confronting a deep and bitter family legacy against a mythic American backdrop.
This felt like being trapped in a very expensive Subaru commercial about generational trauma.
2.75The bully from It and the ditzy lady from support the girls do a great job expanding their range. However, this movie is more boring than watching commercial breaks for the original A team. Also, naming the black horse Mr T is a choice.
3A movie on life support.
4.25I'm glad Haley Lu Richardson isn't my half sister
6.4Nothing spicier than an abusive father! A movie to make you thankful for decent family.
7.2May 2026
Thunder Road

- Comedy
- Drama
Director: Jim Cummings
Starring: Jim Cummings, Kendal Farr, Nican Robinson
Plot: A police officer faces a personal meltdown following a divorce and the death of his mother.
Come on skinny love what happened here. This movie wasn't that good unfortunately I fear.
4.2I wonder how many cops are barely containing a meltdown every day
4.4Just because you film a few long takes doesn’t mean it’s worth a damn.
4.5I just listened to Bruce Spingsteen's Thunder Road. I don't get it. Maybe see a therapist.
6Impressive freak show of acting. Prepare to be slightly charmed and uncomfortable.

Sentimental Value

- Drama
Director: Joachim Trier
Starring: Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas
Plot: An intimate exploration of family, memories, and the reconciliatory power of art.
A little less sentiment, a little more action please
6.5A well acted story about baggy jeans and all the family drama you can fit inside of it.
7Lesson learned: stay out of the arts.
7.2Who do you think would win a champagne race? Gustav Borg on his hospital bed or Jarrod?
7.75I really like that the lead characters last name is Borg, which is also one the main vocabulary words of the swedish chef muppet.
8Mar 2026
Train Dreams

- Drama
Director: Clint Bentley
Starring: Joel Edgerton, Clifton Collins Jr., Felicity Jones
Plot: Based on Denis Johnson's beloved novella, Train Dreams is the moving portrait of Robert Grainier, a logger and railroad worker who leads a life of unexpected depth and beauty in the rapidly-changing America of the early 20th Century.
If a tree falls in the forest, does that advance the story at all? Doesn't feel like it.
6.25This is one of those movies where I wonder how awful the people smell with all those clothes and sweat.
7Train dreams kept me on track with its somber and steady narrative. No derailments here.
7.5No one ever yelled “TIMBERRRR!” Seems like a lost opportunity.
7.75Manchester by the Tree?
8.4Mar 2026
No Other Choice

- Comedy
- Crime
- Drama
Director: Park Chan-wook
Starring: Lee Byung-hun, Son Ye-jin, Woo Seung Kim
Plot: After being fired, a man devises a unique plan to secure a new job: eliminate his competition.
Care about coworkers. Get laid off. Kill everyone. Be happy alone. I don’t know how I am supposed to feel about this movie. It was a bit long.
6.25Dude missed his calling. He should have taken up killing instead of paper.
6.5Paper thin plot, but gets the job done. As you would expect from a South Korean.
6.7Should win an Oscar. For best fart scene.
6.75Beautifully shot and scored, nailed both the dark and the comedy. Slapstick satire of capitalism and masculinity.

The Donut King

- Documentary
- Animation
Director: Alice Gu
Starring: Ted Ngoy, Christie Suganthini, Chet Ngoy
Plot: This documentary tells Ted Ngoy's story that is one of fate, love, survival, hard knocks, and redemption.
As a child I used to go to winchells donuts. I had lost that memory and this movie gave it back to me. The end.
5.25Ted was a bit of a gambler, eating all those donuts and never going to the dentist.
5.9You do nut want to watch this one on an empty stomach. This was a glaze donut of documentaries, just ok.
6Did not expect the Donut King to be flavored with gambling and genocide
6Hell yeah documentaries teaching me things!

Another Round

- Comedy
- Drama
Director: Thomas Vinterberg
Starring: Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Magnus Millang
Plot: Four high-school teachers consume alcohol on a daily basis to see how it affects their social and professional lives.
I don't know if it is my own waning relationship with alcohol, but this movie made me loathe the sound of ice hitting the glass and liquid pouring in after it.
4.5IMDb calls this a Dark Comedy. I guess having a teacher pressure a student to drink before a test is funny in a way!
5.8Fun idea, but these dudes would’ve been exhausted and miserable on day two.
6.25Fun look at Danish boozing and how it's oh so fun and light hearted. Then your wife leaves you and your friend dies. But let's dance!
6.6That scene where they're sitting and staring at one another after the funeral? That's us someday. Well...most of us.
7.75Feb 2026
Eephus

- Comedy
- Drama
- Sport
Director: Carson Lund
Starring: Keith William Richards, Bill Lee, Wayne Diamond
Plot: Grown men's recreational baseball game stretches to extra innings on their beloved field's final day before demolition. Humor and nostalgia intertwine as daylight fades, signaling an era's end.
This movie did not need to go extra innings.
1Like a baseball game, you’ll want to find other things to entertain you while it’s going on.
5David has the incredible ability to pick really long movies even when they're short.
6This movie makes me think I might still have a chance!
6.3I have never been a fan of baseball. But this movie really drew me in and kept me interested in what ultimately resulted in nothing. Just an afternoon of baseball. Then back to it.

The Smashing Machine

- Action
- Biography
- Drama
Director: Benny Safdie
Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Ryan Bader
Plot: The story of mixed-martial arts and UFC champion, Mark Kerr.
This movie was Emily Blunt...just a little ass.
4.1Maybe they should’ve embellished this true story a smidge to help the audience care at all.
4.8I don't like MMA, horrible people, or really bad fake crying, so this movie wasn't really for me
5.25Wait, so, the Rock can act?
6Smashing some Emily blunts not using the washing machine. I can’t think of a spicy take for this one. I’d like to see her smashing machine if ya know what I mean. I’m sorry. I don’t think we should post this.

One Battle After Another

- Action
- Crime
- Drama
Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro
Plot: When their enemy resurfaces after 16 years, a group of ex-revolutionaries reunite to rescue the daughter of one of their own.
I don’t get this movie. What are they trying to accomplish. I guess I’m too old for snatch like movies designed to confuse you with the weaving colorful characters instead of plot.
5.75This movie has no idea what it wants to be, but Leo is amazing
6.7Easily the best Modelo commercial I’ve seen.
6.75Finally a more realistic depiction of a 50 year old trying to parkour.
7.1People having secrets. Secrets not really keeping people safe though. Don't stick your dick in crazy.
7.3Dec 2025
Lucky Grandma

- Comedy
- Crime
- Drama
Director: Sasie Sealy
Starring: Tsai Chin, Hsiao-Yuan Ha, Michael Tow
Plot: Set in New York City's Chinatown, an ornery, chain-smoking Chinese grandma goes all in at the casino, landing herself on the wrong side of luck - and in the middle of a gang war.
If you need body guards, you should get with our friends in the overlooked Asian community.
4.5What if Walter from Lebowski was an old Chinese lady?
4.5Tell the story of her keeping her casino winnings! Surely that wouldn't be as odd and dull as what we watched.
5.1Grandma and the movie both start out on a roll and then quickly run out of luck
5.75Three 8s in a row. Grandma has a huge throbbing sack.
6.25Dec 2025
Frankenstein

- Drama
- Fantasy
- Horror
Director: Guillermo del Toro
Starring: Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Christoph Waltz
Plot: Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist, brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.
So un-nuanced and boring, you'd think del Toro adapted it from one of my students' papers on the book instead of the book itself.
6I guess they blew their budget on the actors? Sure wasn't on the monster's silly assed skin.
6.5Stupid sexy Frankenstein's monster.
6.7Edit out Christoph Waltz’s character and you’d have a solid 2 hour movie.
6.75Visually fun. Movie would have been a lot shorter if men could just talk out their feeling. Except Christoph Waltz, that guy is nuts.
6.8Nov 2025
Phantom Thread

- Drama
- Romance
Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Starring: Vicky Krieps, Daniel Day-Lewis, Lesley Manville
Plot: Set in 1950s London, Reynolds Woodcock is a renowned dressmaker whose fastidious life is disrupted by a young, strong-willed woman, Alma, who becomes his muse and lover.
A lot of background piano music and not much else. Thanks David.
3.7Love is about compromise… and sometimes that compromise is eating a poisonous frittata so your girl can reset your shitty personality
5.75There will be…close-ups and staring?
5.8When she’s crazy, but she’s your kind of crazy.
6.5I have never felt more seen than when he said "I cannot begin my day with a confrontation, please."

Bring Her Back

- Horror
- Mystery
Director: Danny Philippou, Michael Philippou
Starring: Billy Barratt, Sally Hawkins, Mischa Heywood
Plot: A brother and sister uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother.
Very well-made film. The storytelling, cinematography, and acting were all solid. I hated it a lot. Why does anyone watch something like this for pleasure? Awful.
3I thought when you stepped over the chalk you turned into Moonlight Graham, not some weird freak bitch.
4.1I’m glad Oliver finally got to have a full meal. I wonder how many coneys he could have eaten afterwards.
4.5Loose skin and loose ends. No need to bring her back, you can leave her there.
4.7A horror movie that did a lot of showing and not telling and left me wanting more but satisfied with the story that was told. A good look at tragedy and grief and the lengths one would go.
7.8Oct 2025
Filth

- Action
- Comedy
- Crime
Director: Jon S. Baird
Starring: James McAvoy, Jamie Bell, Eddie Marsan
Plot: A corrupt, drug-addicted policeman with bipolar disorder attempts to manipulate his way through a promotion in order to win back his wife and daughter while also fighting his own inner demons.
I guess this is what happens when someone confuses "depraved" with "deep." a mid-90s edgelord parade of vomit, pedophilia, and screaming with nothing to say.
0.3Starts off fun and wacky. Then quickly becomes a movie about doing cocaine and repressing things. Cool if you're an edgy 15 year old I guess.
3.5I’m rating it this highly because I’m guessing this was what they were going for. Wow, what a miserable movie.
3.6Watch as James McAvoy masterfully portrays getting drunk, being drunk, and being hung the ass over.
5I enjoyed this movie despite it disgusting me every chance it had. I was repulsed by the main character but was drawn in just to see what would happen. I felt a little filthy myself. Tee hee.
7.3Oct 2025
Past Lives

- Drama
- Romance
Director: Celine Song
Starring: Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, John Magaro
Plot: Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are wrested apart after Nora's family emigrates from South Korea. Twenty years later, they are reunited for one fateful week as they confront notions of love and destiny.
If I didn’t know any better I could swear I was watching a movie about telepaths communicating but they forgot to add the audio track to let us know what is going on.
5This movie will make you want to get korean bbq, pound soju, or email a long lost love. I hope you're ok with that.
7.1Don't slowly turn to look directly at the camera please. It makes me feel weird and uncomfortable
7.5Imagine loving the idea of someone so much you fly across the world just to stare at them and make everyone involved miserable. Cinema!
8.75I wish they would’ve specified if they wanted boneless or bone in chicken wings. Can’t have them bones in there.

The Fountain

- Drama
- Mystery
- Romance
Director: Darren Aronofsky
Starring: Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz, Sean Patrick Thomas
Plot: As a modern-day scientist, Tommy is struggling with mortality, desperately searching for the medical breakthrough that will save the life of his cancer-stricken wife, Izzi.
This would be a good movie to show on the tvs in a retail electronics store. It visually impresses without encouraging lingering.
2I can’t solve a Rubrics Cube, I didn’t think that lack of skill would apply to a movie. But here we are.
2.5Interesting characters that build nicely then just go nuts. If you like symbolism and the smell of your own farts, you might like this one.
3.3I was left with many questions. What I didnt question was how much Tommy sucked.
5.5Starring Hugh Jackman as a stressed yoga teacher trapped in a screen saver. I hated Tommy a lot.
6Sep 2025
The Dresser

- Drama
Director: Peter Yates
Starring: Albert Finney, Tom Courtenay, Edward Fox
Plot: Personal assistant Norman struggles to get deteriorating veteran actor Sir through a difficult performance of King Lear.
I really would have rather just sat through King Lear.
1.5Overacted, but maybe that's the point? I don't fucking know.
1.8Two solid performances. Too bad they were in this movie.
2.5I had a friend who watched this movie - he would have rather been seent to Colwyn Bay
3the good old days when stage actors rolled their Rs when speaking English!
6.5Aug 2025
The Ugly Stepsister

- Comedy
- Drama
- Horror
Director: Emilie Blichfeldt
Starring: Lea Myren, Ane Dahl Torp, Thea Sofie Loch Næss
Plot: Elvira battles against her gorgeous stepsister in a realm where beauty reigns supreme. She resorts to extreme measures to captivate the prince, amid a ruthless competition for physical perfection.
You know what makes an uninteresting and dumb movie better? The weirdest cum-strewn sex scene ever.
1.5I'm sorry
4.5Norwegian is such an interesting sounding language
5.2In a movie full of sad and gross things, nothing is sadder and grosser than a blowjob out of financial obligation
6.3An uncomfortable exploration of 19th century plastic surgery and fad diets
6.5Aug 2025
The Godfather

- Crime
- Drama
Director: Francis Ford Coppola
Starring: Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan
Plot: The aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty transfers control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son.
A good old-fashioned glimpse into mafia life filled with family, betrayal, and vengeance. Add a touch of racism and sexism and you have The Godfather!
6.5Probs good for the time it came out, but doesn't really hold up. Gangsters and good music carry this one.
7.3I never knew there were so many slurs for Italians!
7.3Man this is a time capsule of a movie. To watch some of these performers before they become who they become was really a treat.
7.75Never remake this. But...there should be a Clemenza spinoff.
9Jul 2025
RRR

- Action
- Adventure
- Drama
Director: S.S. Rajamouli
Starring: N.T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn
Plot: A fearless warrior on a perilous mission comes face to face with a steely cop serving British forces in this epic saga set in pre-independent India.
Does it make me a rascist if I don't enjoy overly convoluted and massively long foreign films
4.5A fun, ridiculous movie that's hindered by its 3 long hours
6.5Indian people fighting the cunty British thru song, dance, tigers, and guns. Good times overall.
6.9100% bonkers. What was this movie pitch like?
8I did not expect it, but this was fucking awesome.
9.2Jul 2025
Little Women

- Drama
- Romance
Director: Greta Gerwig
Starring: Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh
Plot: In 19th century Massachusetts, the March sisters--Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy--on the threshold of womanhood, go through many ups and downs in life and endeavor to make important decisions about their futures.
I found Jo vigorous and compelling, and the only sister worth watching. I suggest a rewrite: Little Woman.
6.25Lots of yappin, but done pretty well honestly. Women are kind of nuts sometimes.
6.9Ah, the good ol’ days when having one servant means you’re poor and just seeing a piece of pink pastry makes you dump your pants. But overall a pretty good movie.
7.2Cute movie. Maybe thought it was almost over at one point and then had a nice little 45 minutes left. Lots of little shenanigans in privileged white people land.
7.25Jo is what happens when you're queer in the 1860's and your only options are Timothee Chalomet or God.
8.8
